Friday Five

Five pieces I’m wearing to my husband’s company holiday party tonight!

I wanted to look like myself, and not like I tried too hard, but also stylish and festive. Also, I’m heading there straight from my own office, so I wanted my outfit to be mostly office appropriate so I wouldn’t have to worry about changing. Here’s what I ended up with!Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 10.22.00 AM

I bought this Michael Kors blazer months ago from Everything But The House, which is an estate sale website. Unfortunately, shipping took FOREVER so I only received it recently. I meant to wear it all through the fall, but I’ll still get a lot of use out of it this winter. I love that it’s vintage, so the fur aspect seems slightly less aggressive, and that it’s both cozy and polished.

To toughen it up a bit, I paired it with a leather mini I purchased during the Shopbop.com Black Friday event. This one is actually pig leather instead of lambskin or sheep, so it’s a bit tougher but still soft and buttery. You know how I feel about wearing leather, so this was an obvious choice. The hem length hits a few inches below the end of the blazer and the silhouettes are similar giving a streamlined and slimming effect.

I bought a pair of classic peep toe Jimmy Choo pumps from the Nordstrom Rack in NYC a little over a year ago and they are my most reached for shoes. They seriously go with everything and are moderately comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. They were still a splurge (even at 60% off!), but the cost per wear makes them totally worth it.

I finished off the outfit with a linen tee from Madewell. The cropped length makes it easy to tuck into the skirt and with so many other “statement” elements I wanted something simple and clean.

Finally, a sweep of Buxom’s Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly for a hint of color and a slight plumping effect. I didn’t want to go too bold with the lip since we’ll be eating and drinking (and maaaaybe kissing… you never know when there will be mistletoe this time of year!)

Friday Five

Five of my favorite sites to shop online!

Black Friday is coming up and with more and more stores announcing that, as a courtesy to their employees, they won’t be opening their doors, online shopping must be the answer!

These are sites I love to shop all year round.

  1. True&Co. Shopping for bras is almost as bad as shopping for jeans, but True&Co makes it easy. You fill out a short quiz on how things usually fit and how they feel and they’ll build a customized shop with suggested sizes. I’ve found all of my favorite underthings here and even signed up for the True Edit, where they send you a bra and two panties quarterly to refresh your wardrobe. They also have a pretty good return policy when it comes to bras (but not panties, understandably).
  2. Madewell. Sale on sale on sale is something that happens pretty frequently at madewell.com. They also have extended styles and sizes that you might not find in store. I love their jewelry and sweaters and tees and pretty much everything else. They don’t always have free shipping, but you can usually get a great deal to make up for it.
  3. Birchbox. Yes, I love to shop at Sephora BUT Birchbox’s reward system is the best you’ll find for beauty. Every $1 you spend earns you 1 point, and 100 points is $10 off. Basically, everything is always 10% off if you redeem your points. You also get points for reviewing your samples and referring friends, and Birchbox carries more than just beauty – they have lots of cute accessories and home goods and even stuff for the man in your life. Pro tip: buy your male friends and family gifts from Birchbox, earn points, and redeem them for some new lipstick. Win-win!
  4. Nespresso. This one is definitely pretty niche, but Nespresso makes reordering pods incredibly fast and easy. They usually ship out the same business day and I’ve never waited more than two days for an order. They usually do pretty good gifts with purchase and you save money when you order online and in bulk.
  5. Baublebar. The Baublebar products are really hit or miss for me. I’ve found pieces that I love and pieces that I want to love, but aren’t really what I imagined when I see them in person. They’re on my list though because of their awesome return policy. You really aren’t taking a risk, so you can go ahead and order whatever you think could work and then return all of the ones that don’t. No hassle! And like Birchbox, they have a great rewards program.
