Beauty News: Kardashian Website Launches
By Alina Avery
I’ll admit, I do find the Kardashian’s style inspiring, especially Kim. They get a lot of hate on the internet, but there’s no denying that they’ve used what they have to get what they want and I can’t fault them for it.
Why are they in the news this week? Three of the Kardashian sisters have launched new beauty and fashion websites, promising makeup tutorials, truth revealing articles, and leads on where you can find the extensions they wear or the products they use to look super glam all of the time. (Spoiler: pretty sure it’s a team of makeup artists and hair stylists that follow them around).
So let’s explore. First up: Kylie Jenner
Let’s just take a minute to remind ourselves the Kylie is 18 years old. 18.
…..18!!!!
But anyway, her site right now is two things. 1) A collection of her notable street or red carpet style and how to get-the-look and 2) a funnel for her mobile app, which apparently has a Kylie vetted radio station among other things.
Here’s something that’s either surprising or unsurprising depending on how you think about it: it’s not free. The website costs $2.99/month to subscribe, which unlocks content. The app is free to download, but offers in-app purchases. And by in-app purchases I mean you can’t really use the app until you pay for the $2.99 subscription.
The same goes for the Kim Kardashian West’s new site and Khloe’s Khloe with a K (in case you forgot how to spell her name). Some free content, some locked behind a $2.99 subscription fee.
The good news: each site has a 7 day free trial, so if you can’t decide which sister is your favorite you have a week to figure it out. Would you rather talk about sex and go to the gym with Khloe? Strobe and sit front row with Kim? Or party and lounge by the pool with Kylie?
I don’t know you guys. As curious as I am about their beauty routines, do I want to shell out $3? For perspective, an online only subscription to Women’s Wear Daily will cost you $149/year, so it’s not unheard of to pay for fashion and beauty related content, and the monthly cost of each Kardashian site is less than a latte. But is it worth it?
And also, which sister do you think will get the most subscribers?
