Friday Five
By Alina Avery
Five pieces I’m wearing to my husband’s company holiday party tonight!
I wanted to look like myself, and not like I tried too hard, but also stylish and festive. Also, I’m heading there straight from my own office, so I wanted my outfit to be mostly office appropriate so I wouldn’t have to worry about changing. Here’s what I ended up with!
I bought this Michael Kors blazer months ago from Everything But The House, which is an estate sale website. Unfortunately, shipping took FOREVER so I only received it recently. I meant to wear it all through the fall, but I’ll still get a lot of use out of it this winter. I love that it’s vintage, so the fur aspect seems slightly less aggressive, and that it’s both cozy and polished.
To toughen it up a bit, I paired it with a leather mini I purchased during the Shopbop.com Black Friday event. This one is actually pig leather instead of lambskin or sheep, so it’s a bit tougher but still soft and buttery. You know how I feel about wearing leather, so this was an obvious choice. The hem length hits a few inches below the end of the blazer and the silhouettes are similar giving a streamlined and slimming effect.
I bought a pair of classic peep toe Jimmy Choo pumps from the Nordstrom Rack in NYC a little over a year ago and they are my most reached for shoes. They seriously go with everything and are moderately comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. They were still a splurge (even at 60% off!), but the cost per wear makes them totally worth it.
I finished off the outfit with a linen tee from Madewell. The cropped length makes it easy to tuck into the skirt and with so many other “statement” elements I wanted something simple and clean.
Finally, a sweep of Buxom’s Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly for a hint of color and a slight plumping effect. I didn’t want to go too bold with the lip since we’ll be eating and drinking (and maaaaybe kissing… you never know when there will be mistletoe this time of year!)
