Ikea Picks
By Alina Avery
Ikea. Affordable, extensive, intimidating. It’s a bit overwhelming to navigate the showroom and the website can also be tricky. But after countless trips and never-ending browsing over the past few months, I’ve pretty much become an Ikea expert. Here are some of my favorite pieces.
1 – INGEFÄRA – Terracotta plant pot with saucer. We love the neutral, earthy, clay shade and these are functional and affordable. Great for both indoors and outdoors. We are embracing the houseplant in this new apartment so stocking up on these pots has been a must.
2 – LOTS – Mirror. This 4-pack of square mirrors is super versatile. We bought several sets and use them in the living room to add more light and the illusion of space. These are heavier than they look but come with sticky wall mounts.
3 – RENS – Sheepskin. I love the look and feel of sheepskin. This is definitely one item that’s worth picking up in the store since the textures can vary so much. You’ll want to find one you like the best!
4 – Ikea PS – Cabinet in white. We actually have this in red but I almost wish we’d gotten the white version. This was a cinch to assemble and adds to the industrial chic look we’re going for in our loft. It locks and has convenient openings for power cables.
5 – VILDAPEL – Bamboo plant stand. With so many plants in so many pots, it’s good to get some variation in height. We love the easy look of this plant stand.
6 – AVSKILD – Cork placemat. These are still on my wish list since they were sold out every time we ventured to Ikea. I love that they look natural, easy, and neutral. Also super affordable!
7 – KARLSTAD – Loveseat and chaise lounge in Isunda Gray. This sofa is a classic. My best friend Daisy even has the same one. The gray goes with everything and has just enough texture to be interesting. It’s a great size and shape and is super comfortable to sit on. We plan on getting different legs for it since the ones it comes with are a bit blockier than we like.
8 – NORNÄS – Pine bench. With our open living space, the dining and living rooms are the same room. Having a bench instead of chairs between the table and the rest of the living space keeps it feeling open. Plus we can fit more people on a bench than in chairs for when we have game nights and dinner parties.
