Ikea Haul
By Alina Avery
We are big Ikea shoppers. When we were moving in and getting settled, we were making multiple trips a week. It got to the point where we were a bit burnt out (and couldn’t even LOOK at another meatball) so we haven’t ventured out for a while.
But today we felt the need for a shoe rack, so we hopped into the car, braced ourselves, and headed into the showroom.
Inevitably, we found a shoe storage solution and then some. Here’s a look at what we brought home!
Business first – we picked up a few OMAR shelving units. We have a “foyer” in our apartment that’s a flight of stairs below our main living area. We call it the “basement” and use it mostly for storage. Since it’s right by the door, we thought it would be a convenient place to store our shoes. We picked up these metal shelves instead of an actual shoe cabinet since we thought it we be more useful and versatile in the future.
We somehow managed to make it this far without owning a proper ladle, so we picked up this HJÄLTE for $4.99.
You can also never have enough espresso cups, and these KALASET stainless steel ones are perfect. I was concerned about them getting too hot to hold, but they’re double walled, so your fingers are safe. Also you definitely won’t break them if you happen to drop them in a pre-caffeine stupor.
We, like true millennials, like to store our dry goods in glass canisters after we buy them in bulk from Whole Foods (I rolled my eyes at myself for that one) so we grabbed two of these KORKEN jars.
Also, we never manage to make it to Ikea without picking up at least one potted plant. Seriously our apartment is beginning to look like the house at the end of Jumanji. But anyway, we added a CRASSULA to the mix this time.
And last but by no means least, my absolute favorite piece from the trip: two SKOLD sheepskin pillow covers. They make a faux version, for the animal averse, but as I mentioned before, I’m a big fan of Ikea sheepskins and also a big fan of throw cushions. It’s a win all around. These are so soft and plush and the feather inserts make them feel super luxe without breaking the bank. I’m totally smitten with them.
